Laurie Meyers received her Master's Degree in Social Welfare from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1988. She received her B.A. degree with Honors in Behavioral Science from the University of Chicago in 1982.

Laurie was licensed as a clinical social worker in the State of California in 1991. She subsequently moved to Virginia, where she obtained her license in 1995.
